    Baraboo, WI (Population 12,700)

    Located in south central Wisconsin and in an area designated as one of the “Last Great Places” by the Nature Conservancy because of its rare rocks, plants and animals, Baraboo is a thriving community that is a part of the Madison Combined Statistical Area (Wisconsin’s Capital City is 45 miles to the south) and a regional market center. Situated on the scenic banks of the Baraboo River, the City is home to the Circus World Museum and the former headquarters and winter home of the Ringling Brothers Circus. Located close by is Devil’s Lake State Park (the largest and most popular in Wisconsin drawing nearly 3 Million plus visitors each year), the Aldo Leopold Center and Shack, and the International Crane Foundation. Baraboo has bustling business districts, including a vibrant historic downtown business district surrounding the Court House Square, that boasts a wide array of businesses as well as employment opportunities close to home. The City is very focused on managed growth while maintaining its small-town ambiance. Baraboo is a full-service community that prides itself on being a great place to live, work, and play, as well as providing high quality municipal services.

    Hiring salary range $125-$145K plus excellent benefits, DOQ. Mayor (3-year term) and Nine Alderpersons (3-year overlapping terms) elected on a non-partisan basis. The 2024 Total Budget is $51.5M including all Proprietary and Agency Funds. The City staff consists of 95 Full-Time employees. Priorities for the next Baraboo Administrator include: sound fiscal management; new housing development; increased tourism while balancing other economic development needs; community engagement; long-term capital improvement planning; growth management; and completion of the Baraboo Comprehensive Plan update.

    Applicants shall have a Bachelor’s Degree, or preferably a Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field along with progressively responsible administrative and leadership experience in a municipal organization(s). Consideration of candidates with private sector or military experience will be made if they can demonstrate accomplishments that directly relate to skills required.

    Desire strong background in budget development and financial management, human resources administration, economic development, strategic planning and capital improvement planning and implementation. The successful candidate should be an innovative and collaborative leader, possess a strong commitment to public service, be a person of high personal and professional integrity, have great listening skills and be an accomplished team builder in addressing community issues and problems.
