    Director of Finance/Administrative Services

    The City of Clive is currently accepting applications for the position of Director of Finance/Administrative Services. This position is responsible for the financial operations of the City. The ideal candidate will be able to maintain and enhance the critical financial stewardship of the City’s resources to help achieve the Clive City Council’s strategic plan and vision for the community. This position directs the development and execution of all financial operations for the City of Clive, including the debt issuance for one of three cities in Iowa to have a AAA bond rating from Moody’s Investor Services. Serves as the City’s Treasurer, overseeing cash investment, risk management and annual financial auditing process. Depending upon the candidate selected, the position’s primary focus will be to direct and supervise the City’s finance staff and could include oversight of other areas, such as the City Clerk and Human Resources. The Director of Finance/Administrative Services reports to and will be appointed by the City Manager, and serve as a member of the City’s Executive Team.

    Clive, population 17,506 (2015 census), is a progressive and growing community located on the western side of the Des Moines metropolitan area. Located at the crossroads of two interstate highways (35 & 80), visibility and convenience are major corporate attributes of the community. Clive combines urban amenities with first rate school systems, a wide variety of housing options, a safe family environment, and an unsurpassed quality of life. Clive is defined by the Clive Greenbelt Park and Trail system, connecting the community from east to west and serving as Clive’s identity.

    To be considered, candidates must have the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Public Administration or similar field. A candidate who is already a Certified Municipal Finance Officer is preferred. At least five years of increasingly responsible experience in managing the finances of a municipal government, or equivalent management or senior staff experience in a similar setting (public or private). At least two years of supervisory experience, and experience in overseeing City Clerk and Human Resources services preferred.

    Candidates should have dynamic leadership and management qualities including problem solving, decision making, strategic planning, human relations and diplomacy; a high level of integrity and honesty; and a commitment to providing top-notch financial and administrative operations.

    Competitive salary starting at $122,000 plus an excellent benefit package.
