    GRANT ACCOUNTANT/ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

    Overview
    The City of West Allis (Population 60,000) is accepting applications for a Grant Accounting Specialist or Accountant to join our Finance Department supporting the City’s Grant/Special Revenue funds. The ideal candidate for this position is a positive individual with an accounting background and experience working with grants and special revenue funds who is comfortable utilizing technology, streamlining processes, and providing high-quality, responsive customer service to internal and external customers.

    This position focuses on the City’s Grant Funds, including Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), Housing Grants (Voucher Program, HOME Program, Etc.), Health Department Grants, Police Department Grants, and other miscellaneous grants. Coordinates, organizes and maintains the accounting systems for these programs; prepares adjusting journal entries, reports, financial analysis as needed. Prepares and submits grant draw down requests to various Federal and State agencies in a timely manner. Completes all grant accounting, recording, reporting, fund disbursements, and reconciliations, and assists with grant writing. Manage all economic development and grant related loans.

    Qualifications
    Minimum qualifications for an Accounting Specialist include an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and two years recent paid accounting experience, and minimum qualifications for an Accountant include a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and three to five years recent paid accounting experience. Both encouraged to apply

    Knowledge of Federal and State Grant Programs, as well as Single Audit guidelines for such programs highly desirable.

    Recent professional work experience in local government, grant accounting highly desirable.

    Salary and Benefits
    The hourly rate range for this position is $20.15 to $33.13. Appointment above the minimum is based on qualifications and experience. In addition, an employee who resides within the City of West Allis shall be granted an additional 2% on top of the established pay for their position.
