City of Maple Valley WA – Finance Director

The City of Maple Valley is seeking a reliable, proactive, and collaborative Finance Director for this award-winning and charming city of 28,000 located 27 miles southeast of Seattle. The City of Maple Valley operates with a Council/Manager form of government and a seven-member Council elected for four-year terms. The City operates with a 2023 budget of $26 million and a team of 57 FTEs. City staff, led by City Manager Laura Philpot, enjoy a positive and healthy working relationship with the City Council.

THE FINANCE DIRECTOR

Reporting to the City Manager, the Finance Director is responsible for developing and monitoring the City’s operating and capital budgets under the direction of the City Manager and in partnership with the Department Directors. The Finance Director is also responsible for the oversight, management and review of all financial operations, including accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, cash and investment management, all financial reporting including the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), accurate monthly and year end statements, and asset inventory.

The Finance Director oversees a departmental budget of $864,206 and a team of three FTEs. Direct reports include the Payroll Accountant, Accounts Payable Accountant, and Senior Financial Analyst.
