ParticipantLake Villa, IL (8,741), a beautiful, growing community located in Lake County, Illinois, approximately 60 miles north of Chicago, is seeking a finance professional interested in joining the Village’s leadership team as the community embarks on exciting development and capital projects.
Lake Villa (6.6 square miles) has a history of tourism due to its lakes which provide numerous recreational opportunities. Lehmann Park offers a beach for swimming in Cedar Lake which also has a boat launch, picnic areas and playgrounds, a favorite of residents. There are a number of other lakes and small ponds which add to the ambience of the community, making it a desirable place to live and contributing to the Village’s growth.
The Village is a full-service organization which provides Police, Public Works, Community Development, Finance, and Administrative services, as well as water distribution and maintenance (water provided through Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency) and sewer maintenance. The Mayor and six (6) Trustees are elected on a non-partisan basis for four (4) year overlapping terms. The Village Administrator, appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Board of Trustees, is responsible for the implementation of policy and the overall operations of a $4.6 million, as well as management and leadership of 32 full time employees. The Village’s current bond rating is Aa3a.
Position Requirements
Appointed by the Village Administrator with approval of the Mayor and Village Board and reporting to the Village Administrator, the Finance Director oversees the financial operations of the Village. This includes cash management, investments, financial reporting, financial planning, and the development and monitoring of the Village budget and capital improvement program. The Director currently has three direct reports within the Finance Department: two finance clerks and a utility billing clerk.The Village is seeking a skilled finance professional to lead the Finance Department. The successful candidate will have the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, public policy, business, or related field.
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in finance or accounting, preferably in public sector.
• Master’s Degree, CPFO or CPA designation, or knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to is a plus.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, strategic planning abilities, and the facility to work well with elected and appointed officials.
• Desire to collaborate with a team of dedicated elected and appointed professionals.Compensation and Benefits
The anticipated starting salary range is $95,000 – 115,000 +/- DOQ based on qualifications and experience, with a range maximum up to $125,000. Residency is not required. The Village offers a competitive benefits package, including membership in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), optional 457 deferred compensation plans, and a menu of health plans. The position will work primarily from the Village Hall with occasional opportunities to work remotely.Application Process
