    The Village of Sussex (population 11,487) is looking for our next Finance Director to replace our existing Director who is retiring after 30+ years with the Village. The Finance Director is a highly responsible managerial position serving on the Village’s Management Team and reporting directly to the Village Administrator. The position supervises 1.7 FTE.

    Primary Duties:
    • Annual audit coordination, statements and reporting
    • Coordination and preparation of the annual budget
    • Provide backup support for annual property tax collection
    • Manage Village debt
    • Treasury functions
    • Oversee payroll processing
    • Risk management
    • Processing cash collections
    • Financial oversight of three utilities and capital program

    • A CPA with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
    • Five years of public financial management experience, preferably in a manager role.

    Pay & Benefits: The starting annual salary is $100,000, or higher depending on qualifications. The Village’s benefit package is competitive and includes Wisconsin Retirement System, deferred compensation match, health and dental insurance, and support for professional development.

With a 2022 General Fund budget of $13.l M in expenditures (including $2.6M for debt service) plus utility budgets totaling $6.l M, the Village provides Police (contracted), Fire, Public Works, Parks and Recreation, Library, Water, Sewer, Stormwater, Planning and Development, as well as support services required to offer the quality services to which the community has grown accustomed. In addition, there are two active TIF Districts in the Village which are not included in the budget numbers above. The Village continues to be in a strong financial position. Its last general obligation bond issues were rated Aa2 by Moody’s. Sewer and Stormwater bonds are rated Aa3 and Water Utility bonds are rated Aa3. The Village has an equalized tax base of almost $1.7 billion with considerable growth underway, and continued growth expected for the next decade.
