    Green County has a full-time opening for an Accountant. The accountant perform a variety of moderately difficult specialized accounting functions in coordinating the flow of accounting and payroll data through the County financial records. Assists the Finance Fiscal Clerk and Finance Director with general accounting functions, as needed.

    Duties:

    The Accountant performs a variety of essential duties including: maintains account records in accordance with County systems, procedures, and instructions; trains, assists, and guides County employees in the completion of accounting functions using data processing equipment and the County’s financial software; reviews or codes accounting data for accuracy; performs data entry of payroll, accounts payable, cash receipts, and general ledger transactions as back-up for Finance Fiscal Clerk; calculates back pay for employees as needed; reconciles billings and payments for employee benefit programs, including health, life, disability, dental, and vision insurance, as well as Section 125 programs; calculates and processes all amounts due State and Federal agencies for payroll withholdings; i.e. state and federal taxes, garnishments, retirement contributions, and unreimbursed medical deductions; assists department heads or department fiscal staff with questions regarding their expenditures or revenues; assists auditors during their preliminary work and annual financial audit, assists in the development and testing of new data processing applications; uses various computer software programs including, word processing, spreadsheet, and desktop publishing to create reports and documents; and types, files, and performs general clerical duties as needed.

    Requirements: Applicants must have an Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Accounting from a two-year college or technical school, supplemented with additional courses in computer software programs or a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or relate field. One to two years related experience, including some experience with governmental fund accounting.
    Consideration may be given for any combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of enterprise resource planning systems and accounting software systems including Munis and Microsoft Excel is desired. The ideal candidate should have strong skills in payroll processing, ability to provide training and ability to give direction to the Department fiscal staff.

    Compensation and Benefits:

    The annual salary for this position will depend on the applicant’s qualifications and experience and ranges from $19.82 to $25.63 hourly at 37.5 hours per week.
